In German we call that a “Schildbürgerstreich”. Yeah, no kidding, we have a word especially for things like that.

The term comes from the “Schildbürger” tales, which depict the antics of the supposedly foolish citizens of the fictional town of Schildburg.

The town was called Schilda. Legend has it that the citizens of this town were very wise and sought after as advisors everywhere in the country. Then one day they were fed up with that and decided to be total fools from then there out.
