To this day, I still have no fucking idea why they insist the 2020 election was rigged but refuse categorically to prove it in court. It’s always social media whining.

When they say they have HUGE amount of evidences, I just ask why they don’t tell Rudy Giuliani. Surely he would be more than happy to clean his reputation and make Trump King of the USA.

Why don’t they have this debate at the only place it matters, in court? If you have the evidences and if it’s so obvious and damning, why not prove it?

Why don’t they? Because they know it’s not true. They know that they don’t have evidence that they can present in court, and even they aren’t dumb enough to perjur themselves. Their plan was never to win in a court of law: it was so win in a court of their own supporters’ public opinion.

They have had this debate in court nearly 100 times and have never proven anything.

Meanwhile, out of 160 million votes, there were 2 cases of fraud from Trump voters.

The descent to fascism is steep and at this point I’m not sure imprisoning Trump will have an effect. Look at what Texas and Ken Paxton did in negating over 2 million mail in ballots that would have won Texas for both Biden and Beto.

Maybe you haven’t met any cult members Republicans, but if a republican in office or someone on TV says anything, they’ll believe and repeat. Believe and repeat

It doesn’t even have to be true. It can specifically be NOT true. And that’s why they do it.

It’s effective and the “do your own research” crowd actually never does their own research

That’s because their idea of “dO yOuR rEsEaRcH” is reading “articles” watching YT videos made by wingnuts in their moms’ basements that got their “facts” and sources from other wingnuts in other basements. It’s an enormous circlejerk that keeps reinforcing itself from a pool of nonsense information. And when anyone credible comes in with actual facts and sources that discredit the entire basis of their concepts, it’s fake news and a slew of ackshuallys.

I’ll give some credit: it’s increasingly difficult to separate fact from fiction in articles that are written more like a persuasive essay than actual journalism. But this self reinforcing idea that everyone is lying and trying to pedo your kids has gone way too far. Are there nefarious actors? Absolutely. But I still believe it’s possible to be informed without relying on mentally stunted echo chambers.

Confirmation bias is super strong with those people too.

You get in online arguments and they eventually, after much reluctance, cough up the sources you ask for. Always fringe, unknown, highly skewed sources. And of course anything that gets more than 100 sessions a month is mainstream and corrupt. Including scientific journals

Lol right. You could show them a scientific journal that’s been ratified and endorsed by the global scientific community, and they’ll say they’re being paid by the global elites to push a narrative.

Right, because the companies that make a $20 vaccine hope you buy that instead of the $1000s per dose meds that you’d need if you didn’t take it

So people like my conservative family can complain and feel like perpetual victims. It must be exhausting.

Because they aren’t arguing in good faith. It’s as simple as that.

Trump knows the election wasn’t actually rigged, but he’s going to keep shouting that it was to rile up his supporters. Some of those supporters (many even) may believe these lies, but the GOP leadership knows better. They also know that they can’t cross Trump lest they lose his supporters, and possibly face their violent wrath.

All they want is propaganda. It’s not about what actually happened, it’s what they can keep repeating to their base so they can villify Democrats. That’s all the gop is now. And their base eats it up, they believe it. It’s a sad state of affairs.

What has more value for them?

      1. go to courts and get thrown out of them
      2. go to social media channels and keep telling your have evidence

One gets you limited time to rile up your base and the other you can keep using without having to proof a damn thing. You do the math.

As The New York Times reported, “White House counsel, Pat A. Cipollone, and the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, repeatedly and aggressively pushed back on the ideas being proposed, which went beyond the special counsel idea, those briefed on the meeting said. Mr. Cipollone told Mr. Trump there was no constitutional authority for what was being discussed, one of the people briefed on the meeting said. Other advisers from the White House and the Trump campaign delivered the same message throughout the meeting, which stretched on for a long period of time.” As CNN notes, “shouting and insults ensued” and “the night ended with Trump tweeting that a coming gathering in Washington, DC, on January 6, 2021, to protest the election results ‘will be wild.’”

Also said to be of interest to investigators is December 14, 2020, the day a slate of fake GOP electors signed certificates falsely claiming Trump had won the election; investigators have reportedly focused on “efforts to recruit the illegitimate electors, have them sign certificates falsely asserting Trump had won, and then use them as a pretense to pressure then vice president Mike Pence to delay certification of Biden’s Electoral College win on January 6.”

Last week a man was arrested in Barack Obama’s DC neighborhood after Trump, prosecutors say, shared what he claimed was the former president’s address.
